A fun holiday experience as well as sound computer education, many come again and again.

In small groups and short 55min sessions much is covered, then a break for drinks and computer games.

Presented at the level and experience of those attending. Children are “buddied up” alongside another of similar age and experience.

Minecraft: Modelling to Mastery

This course introduces you to the fun and creativity of Minecraft from beginner concepts through to more advanced tasks like hosting servers and installing modifications.

With this course you will be able to discover new aspects of the game, not limited to but including:
  • How to setup, manage and host your own Minecraft server. Complete with plugins.

  • Install custom mods into Minecraft and use the launcher (such as Forge, Tekkit, OptiFine and more).

  • Understand basic logic, use redstone to your advantage, create contraptions and make amazing games bases.

  • Become an efficient master Minecraft builder using WorldEdit and WorldGuard to create masterpieces or carve and sculpt landscape in game at will.

To attend you need your own Minecraft account. You can purchase one from EB Games for $32 or online from minecraft.net (Approximately $33NZD).

Create 3D Games & Learn To Program

Create a labyrinth of rooms in a range of finishes, with water or lava below, sky above and outdoor scenes. Add internal and external lighting to give a great effect.

Add doors, elevators, tele-porters and program them to operate with the correct keys.

Add a player, enemies, guns, health packs and other entities. Make your own start, win and lose screens and create a multi level game.

Learn how to create and skin your own 3D models and place them in the game.

Games are made from template scripts, level 2 of the creating games course involves learning how to modify these scripts to create a more advanced game.

Move advanced students may be able to start level 2 of the course towards the end of the week.

Understand the principles, practices and terminology behind programming languages. Program in easy to learn QBasic. Program a typing tutor and dice throwing game.

A Discovery Course in Computing

Begin a voyage of discovery that you can further each holidays:
- Discover the different areas of computing;
- Find out what is best for you;
- Find answers to any questions you may have;
This course covers aspects from all of the classes

Create GIF and Gimp animations, use PowerPoint as an artist brush, create animated presentations.

Discover how to create 3D Games, design a web page and learn how to build and program a computer, make a film and edit the video.

Essential Computer Skills

An excellent course to learn computer skills that will make school easier and give you an edge. Create GIF animations - it’s fun, enjoyable and a powerful learning experience.

From Introduction to advanced sessions in Word, PowerPoint and Excel. A lesson shows how to use PowerPoint as an artist’s brush. Photos are taken to make ID cards and animated PowerPoint photo presentations.

Programming Level 1

Understand the principles and terminology behind programming languages. Program in easy to learn QBasic. Learn print and input statements, string and non-string variables, calculations, presenting results and then program a calculator.

Understand how to store and compare variables, make random numbers, integers, loops, counters, decisions, jumps, subroutines, concatenation, left, right and mid string functions, screen positioning, displaying results, formatting input and make a dice throwing game. Write and retrieve files to disk. See next for level 2 and 3.

Programming Intermediate/Advanced

Create your own 2D platformer game.

Create the level layout, add the player, enemies and other entities. Customise their behaviours and create their graphics.


This course will be focused more on writing code at a "high level". This means that you will not have to do the lower level details (such as creating the basic functionality of all the individual components). Instead, in this course we will use libraries (other people's code) to allow us to get straight into creating the game.


Prerequisites:

It is recommended that those that which to attend this course have done the "Programming Level 1" course or have prior experience with programming in Processing (or Java).

Web Design, Animations & Graphics

Create GIF animations and use Adobe Flash for fancy animations. They’re fun and enjoyable to learn. Then create a web site for your animations, photos, jokes and links.

Also taught are rollover buttons, bookmarks, hyperlinks, dynamic HTML effects and page transitions. Instructions are available as well in a range of graphics programs like Gimp, Photoshop, Illustrator, and PowerPoint.

Film Making and Video Editing

Learn in a fun inventive way to generate Ideas, develop a story, create a storyboard, break it into scenes and shots and plan a shoot.

Learn to set up and use a camera and tripod, types of shots, how to frame, compose.

Then use computer video editing to add sound, transitions, titles and credits.

Finally publish as a finished movie to youtube.

Build Your Own Computer

Learn the parts, terminology and principles involved to build or upgrade a computer. Computers are supplied to pull apart. Learn to assemble the motherboard, CPU, RAM, add cards and disk drives, set slave and master drives as well as learning how to install an operating system (i.e. Windows).

Intermediate & Advanced Workshops

Great for those who have been before and those who know a lot. Courses are enjoyable and loads of fun!

Sessions are run on student's areas of interest including building and upgrading computers, web design, graphics and animations, making 3D games, databases and programming, networking computers, running a web site, video editing and movie making.

This course is a great way to improve your skills and really become proficient with a range of programs.

After School Computer Classes

These classes are a great way to upskill and become really proficient with arange of programs.

Suitable for those wanting to get ahead, those wanting to catch up and others purely interested in discovering what is available.

Small group size allows more individual tuition. Children are "buddied up" with another of similar age and experience.

Course content is adjusted for the experience and learning abilities of those attending. From introduction to advanced and from ages 5 to 17.

Sessions may be run on web design, graphics, animations, an artist’s use of PowerPoint, Photoshop, video editing, creating games, programming, Access and databases, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, networking, building and upgrading computers, how to host your own web sites. Also available is exam preparation.


After school class sessions; 1hr @ $20, 1½ hr @ $30. After school private sessions; 1hr @ $40, 1½ ;hr @ $50.


Saturday 3 hour Computer Class

These classes are a great way to upskill and become really proficient with a range of programs.

Suitable for those wanting to get ahead, those wanting to catch up and others purely interested in discovering what is available.

Small group size allows more individual tuition. Children are "buddied up" with another of similar age and experience.

Course content is adjusted for the experience and learning abilities of those attending. From introduction to advanced and from ages 5 to 17.

Generally the first session is on one topic of interest, then a drink and PC game break, and the second session on another topic of interest

Sessions may be run on web design, graphics, animations, an artist’s use of PowerPoint, Photoshop, video editing, creating games, programming, Access and databases, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, networking, building and upgrading computers, how to host your own web sites. Also available is exam preparation.
